Italy
Italy has large banking groups, local institutions and cooperative banks. Learn who supervises them and why deposit protection depends on the particular bank.
Italy's banks and supervisory framework
Italy's banking landscape includes large banking groups, local institutions and cooperative banks. As a euro-area country, Italy participates in the Single Supervisory Mechanism. The European Central Bank supervises significant banking groups directly, while Banca d’Italia supervises less significant institutions within that framework.
Eligible deposits are protected through recognised guarantee systems. The Interbank Deposit Protection Fund (FITD) covers its member banks, while cooperative credit banks belong to a separate arrangement. An institution's presence in NEXVORO does not mean that individual products or current rates have been published for that institution.
