Jordan’s banking system and two insurance arrangements
Jordan uses the Jordanian dinar (JOD). Its banking system includes commercial banks and Sharia-compliant institutions. The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) supervises banks and provides a banking sector guide that helps users identify operating institutions. The legal name of a bank and whether a product is a deposit, a financing arrangement or an investment account are important when understanding customer rights.
The Jordan Deposit Insurance Corporation (JODIC) administers statutory deposit protection, including a dedicated fund for Islamic banks. The Islamic-bank fund has its own Sharia-compliant framework and covers eligible types of dinar-denominated accounts under specified rules. Deposit currency and account classification are important: holding funds in another currency should not automatically be assumed to carry the same insurance treatment.
