Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein banking across Swiss-franc and EEA markets
Liechtenstein uses the Swiss franc (CHF), while participating in the European Economic Area. Its financial centre is known for private banking, asset management and cross-border client relationships. The Financial Market Authority (FMA Liechtenstein) licenses and supervises banks and other regulated financial providers. It is important to distinguish a bank holding repayable deposits from an asset manager that advises on investments or keeps securities in custody.
The Deposit Guarantee and Investor Compensation Foundation (EAS) administers Liechtenstein’s statutory arrangements for protecting qualifying deposits and providing investor compensation. These are separate types of protection with different triggering events and eligible claims. Holding a portfolio at a supervised institution does not imply that its investment value or potential losses are guaranteed. The FMA’s registers and the EAS scheme information help establish who the contracting institution is and what protection may apply.
