International banking and supervision in Luxembourg
Luxembourg is an international financial centre serving private and corporate clients. Domestic banks operate alongside branches of institutions based abroad. The country uses the euro and takes part in the European banking supervisory framework involving the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) and the ECB.
The Luxembourg Deposit Guarantee Fund (FGDL) covers eligible deposits with its member institutions. A separate scheme, the Système d'indemnisation des investisseurs Luxembourg (SIIL), addresses certain investor compensation situations. Securities custody and protection against market losses should not be mistaken for guaranteed bank deposits.
