Netherlands

Dutch banks operate under both national and European supervision. Learn how DNB and AFM differ and what to verify about a bank, its brand and deposit protection.

The Dutch banking system and its supervisors

The Netherlands has banks, payment providers and other financial firms operating within the euro area. De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) focuses on prudential supervision, while the Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) oversees market conduct and customer interests. Banking authorisations are handled within the European supervisory framework involving the ECB.

DNB administers the Dutch deposit guarantee for eligible bank deposits. However, a bank from another EU country operating in the Netherlands may be covered by its home-country scheme instead. NEXVORO currently lists institutions in the Netherlands without a published set of individual financial product offers.
