Switzerland has cantonal, private and international banks. Find out how to check FINMA authorisation and distinguish protected deposits from investments.
Banking and supervision in Switzerland
Switzerland has cantonal banks, private institutions and internationally active banking groups. The Swiss franc (CHF) is the country's principal currency. FINMA supervises banks and other financial businesses, while the Swiss National Bank (SNB) is responsible for monetary policy.
Eligible deposits at qualifying FINMA-authorised banks benefit from Switzerland's protection framework involving esisuisse. Ordinary bank deposits are treated differently from securities held in custody or pension assets, so the same protection must not be assumed for every financial arrangement. NEXVORO currently provides institution information for Switzerland without individual published product offers.
