Banking supervision and deposits in Taiwan

The New Taiwan dollar (TWD) is the local currency. Monetary and foreign-exchange policy falls within the responsibilities of the central bank, while the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), through its Banking Bureau, oversees banks and several other categories of financial institutions. Banks, credit cooperatives, foreign-bank branches and payment-related providers do not necessarily have the same permissions. The legal entity behind a service is therefore more informative than the name on an application.

The Central Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) administers deposit insurance for insured deposit-taking institutions. Official CDIC guidance distinguishes covered deposits from products that are not deposits and explains how eligible balances are counted at each insured institution; qualifying local- and foreign-currency deposits can be considered under its rules. This does not mean that securities, investment funds or every stored-value product have the same protection. NEXVORO lists financial organisations for this market but has no separately published product offers here at present.
