Türkiye
Türkiye’s banking market and participation banks
Türkiye uses the Turkish lira (TRY). Its financial system includes traditional deposit banks, participation banks operating on Sharia-compliant principles, investment banks and payment-service providers. The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA/BDDK) regulates banks and other institutions under its mandate. Payment and electronic-money services operate under a separate framework supervised by the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT).
The Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (SDIF/TMSF) administers protection for qualifying savings deposits and participation funds at eligible banks, subject to the fund’s conditions. This is distinct from money held with a payment or electronic-money firm. Türkiye also has both TRY and foreign-currency banking, so the account currency, interest or profit-sharing rules and any conversion charges deserve particular scrutiny.
